JAMES K BARTLETT



JAMES K BARTLETT, son of Nathan Bartlett and Narcissa Suttle, was born 10 July 1833 in White County, Tennessee and died 29 April 1920 in Tippah County, Mississippi. He married LIDDIA AMANDA WELLS, daughter of Joseph Morehead Wells and Sarah Leatherwood Burns.

James K Bartlett moved to Tippah Co when a child. Enlisted on March 18, 1862, in the Tippah Farmers at Orizaba under Capt. Granville A. Woods. The company subsequently became Co. H, 34 Infantry. James K. achieved the rank of Sergeant. James K. Bartlett was captured on Lookout Mountain, Chattanooga, on 24 Nov 1863. He served on the Board of Supervisors in Tippah County District 4 from Jan 1882 - Jan 1884. He died on 29 April 1920 in Tippah Co. Killed by a tornado. His wife Mandy died in the toronado also, she is buried next to him. She died on 20 April 1920 and James lived for another 9 days, his obituary being on 6 May. Family history says his skull was split open by something he struck or struck him in the toronado. He walked nearly a mile back with his fatal injury to where the cabin had stood after being carried off by the toronado. Buried in County Line Cemetery located on Prentiss/Tippah County line.
