Daniel Murley's Last Will & Testement
In the Name of God, Amen. I, Daniel Murley of Greenbriar County and Virginia
State -- being sick and low in body the in perfect mind and memory do call to
mind the mortality of my body -- Knowing that all mankind has once to die, do order this and
Constitute this to be my last will and Testement, and as touching
my worldly Estate which has pleased god to bestow on me, I will, give
and devise in manner and form following, that is to say after a desent burial is
taken thereout at the discration of my Exrt. hereafter named, I give and devise to my
wife Margaret my bay horse and as much cash to be bot of my estate as will
purchase her a good saddle, and as to my land, I devise to my wife to have
peasable possesion of the whole till my two sons is of age, then the land to be equally
devided between the two, the remainder of my horses to be devided amongst my
children, and the meat cattle all to be sold, only what my wife sees proper to keep for
the use of the family, the money to be for the benefit of the Children. I have an order on
Archer Mathers for 500 pounds and after my debts is paid out of it, the remainder together
with a bond on George Clendinan for 1000 pounds to be for the schooling of my Children.
I Constitute my wife and Capt. Hugh Miller and James Cain Executors of this my last
will and testement, revoking and disannuling and making void all former wills
and testements, do ratify this to be my last will and testement. In witness whereof I have
hereunto set my hand and seal this 26th day of March 1781.

At a Court, a Court held for Greenbriar County Augusta 22nd, 1781,
This Instrument of writing was presented to the Court as and for
the last will and Testement of Daniel Murley, Dec'd, and proved
by the oath of Thomas Price, a witness thereto, and ordered to
record. On the motion of Margaret Murley, Hugh Miller and James Cain,
the Executors named therein who made oath accourding to law. Certificate
granted them for obtaining a probate thereof, whereupon they entered into and
acknowledged their bond with Condition as the law directs.
