  "This week it becomes the unpleasant duty of the Democrat to record the death of one of Van Buren County's best known and perhaps oldest ladies, Mrs. Kate Hider Smith, aged eighty-nine years, one month and twenty-seven days. Mrs. Smith, whose maiden name was Bradley, was a native of Tennessee where she resided until shortly after the death of her husband in 1856, when with nine small children she emigrated to this state, settling in this county where she continued to reside until the time of her death. Of the nine children born to her seven are now living, the youngest being 57 years of age. Of these four were present during her last illness and burial, towit: W. T., A. H. and H. L. Smith of Clinton, and J. C. Smith of Tennessee. One son and a daughter, J. S. Smith and Mrs. Mary Loyd of Texas and one son, D. M. Smith of Oklahoma were unable to be present.
  Funeral services were conducted at the M E Church, South, By Revs. Lawson and Greeson. Interment took place at the Clinton Cemetery."

JOHN CARROLL SMITH

JOHN CARROLL SMITH, son of John Smith and his wife Susan, was born 1817 in White County, Tennessee and died 1856 in White County. He married 19 March 1840 in White County to CATHARINE HYDER BRADLEY, daughter of Anselam Bradley and Mary Hampton, born 19 November 1820 in White County and died 11 September 1910 in Van Buren County, Arkansas. She is buried in the Clinton Cemetery, Van Buren County, Arkansas.

WILLIAM T SMITH, born 1842. He married 26 March 1866 in White County to Suzannah Sparks.
ANDREW K SMITH, born 1843.
JAMES S SMITH, born 1846. He married 24 July 1865 in White County to C P Gross.
MARY E SMITH, born 1847. She married 29 July 1871 to Balaam L S OAKES.
HENRY L SMITH, born November 1849 in White County and died 1916 in Van Buren County. He married 1870 in Boone County, Arkansas to Permelia Jane McAllister.
