The essential oil is an amber-colored liquid with a rich balsamic-floral scent, which slowly solidifies on cooling into a crystalline mass. Peru balsam blends well with mimosa, ylang ylang, sandalwood, labdanum, neroli, patchouli, cedarwood, and oriental, spicy and floral bases.

A tall, graceful tropical tree, similar in appearance to the Tolu balsam tree. The balsam is a pathological product, obtained by making V-shaped incisions into the bark and sap wood, often after the trunck has been beaten and scorched. The essential oil is obtained by dry distillation of crude balsam obtained from the wood.

Peru Balsam

(Myroxylon balsamum, var. pereirae)

Somewhat spicier and smokier than Tolu Balsam, Peru balsam has a balsamic-vanilla aroma. It is used for respiratory problems and in skin care. In manufacturing, Peru balsam is added to perfumes, soaps, and cosmetics as a fragrance. It also helps to keep perfume from evaporating too fast.
Our Peru Balsam is a resiniod oil, it is very thick. To be used externally only.
